Amankora Paro is inside blue pine forest above Paro town, far enough from the road that the only sound in the morning is birdsong. The low stone buildings, dark timber and pitched roofs blend into the landscape.
The suites are warm and with wood-burning stoves that the staff light before you return from the evening walk, freestanding bathtubs deep enough to forget the altitude, wooden banquette window-seats set at exactly the angle that faces the tree line. There lodge is perfect spaced and located in the woods, where you can walk around to the sounds of the birds and animals.
The spa is two storeys, with a glass-walled yoga studio that opens onto the forest.
