Amankora Paro is inside blue pine forest above the Paro town, far enough from the road that the only sound in the morning is from the birds in the forest. Its low stone buildings, dark timber and pitched roofs, blending with enverionment. Nothing competes with what is outside the window.
The suites are warm and unhurried: wood-burning stoves that the staff light before you return from the evening walk, freestanding bathtubs deep enough to forget the altitude, wooden banquette window-seats set at exactly the angle that faces the tree line. There are twenty-four rooms, so the lodge never feels crowded.
