COMO Uma Punakha has ten rooms. That number shapes everything about the experience: the dining room never has more than a handful of tables occupied, the spa — reached by a path through a small woodland glade — is never busy, and the hillside the lodge occupies above the Mo Chhu river feels, when you are on it, entirely private.
The rooms and villas all face the valley. The standard Valley Rooms are between twenty-seven and thirty-four square metres — not large by some definitions, but designed with enough consideration that the space works: sheesham-wood furniture, wall paintings by local Bhutanese artists, and a deep soaking tub positioned specifically to face the valley through the window. The standalone villas go up to ninety square metres with a separate living room and a large outdoor terrace where the view opens fully. In every room, the bathtub faces outward.
The COMO Shambhala Retreat here specialises in hot stone baths, Bhutanese healing treatments, yoga, and guided meditation. The Punakha valley is mild and clear for most of the year — warm enough in winter that the orchards and paddy fields are green while the mountains above hold their snow.
