Dawa means moon in Dzongkha, and the newest large hotel in the Paro valley takes the name as its brief — calm, contemporary and set on a rise at Dobara above Bondey, where the valley opens below and the airport is minutes away. It opened in 2025 under Singapore’s Heeton group, which shows in the polish, while the setting and the spirit stay Bhutanese.
The rooms are the story: seventy one deluxe rooms at a genuinely large sixty square metres, fifteen premium rooms larger still, and a single Dawa Suite of a hundred and twenty square metres looking over the Paro landscape. Cypress, the fusion restaurant, works local ingredients into a menu with range, and The D Bar handles the evening.
Wellness is the other emphasis — the Chelela Spa, a mountain facing fitness studio, and what the hotel fairly claims as the largest infinity edge pool in Bhutan, a strange and wonderful thing to swim in with the Himalaya on the skyline.
Dawa earns its place for two reasons: the rooms are among the largest in the valley at every price point, and the airport is minutes away — which makes it the most comfortable first or last night in Bhutan I can currently offer. For guests arriving jetlagged or departing on an early flight, a sixty square metre room, a long swim and a spa hour solve more than any itinerary can.
