The district is a rolling country of well kept farms and mixed communities, often cited as the heart of Bhutan’s push toward fully organic agriculture. The Punatsangchhu below its ridges is prime winter birding water, with ibisbill and wallcreeper among the draws.
Travellers pass through on the way south. Those who stop find good soil, friendly farms and a quiet pace.
Tsirang is on the north south highway between Wangdue and Gelephu, so it fits as a stop on the way south. One night is enough for a farm visit around Damphu and a morning of birding on the Punatsangchhu. October to April is the best time, and winter is best for birds.
