Tsirang has the kindest climate in Bhutan — neither the high cold nor the border heat — and it uses it to grow much of the kingdom’s vegetables.

The district is a rolling country of well kept farms and mixed communities, often cited as the heart of Bhutan’s push toward fully organic agriculture. The Punatsangchhu below its ridges is prime winter birding water, with ibisbill and wallcreeper among the draws.

Travellers pass through on the way south. Those who pause find the Bhutan of good soil and unremarkable contentment — which is, after all, what the whole experiment is for.
