Druk Hotel Thimphu
Sixty-seven rooms overlooking Thimphu's main square with fireplaces, deep soaking tubs, and the Ha Yul spa.
Sixty-seven rooms in the heart of Thimphu — classic Bhutanese fixtures, heated floors, freestanding bathtubs, and a central position on the main square.
Druk Hotel Thimphu overlooks the main square of the capital and the location gives it an immediate connection to Thimphu’s daily life. Sixty-seven rooms across Executive and Regular floors, all with hand-woven carpets, fireplaces, heated floors, and deep soaking bathtubs. The colour palette is Bhutanese — gold, red, and green in the textiles and furnishings — and the marble bathrooms with glass-enclosed showers give the rooms a proper hotel weight.
The 7th Restaurant serves Bhutanese, Indian, Thai, and Chinese food; the High Jinks bar is a reliable evening option; and the Ha Yul spa adds treatments to the heated-floor, fireside comfort of the rooms. The hotel provides free cooked-to-order breakfast, which is a practical advantage for guests with early temple or market visits planned.
Druk Hotel Thimphu is one of my favourite four-star options in the capital precisely because of the main-square position. Guests here can step out the door and be watching Thimphu move — the vegetable sellers, the monks, the schoolchildren, the civil servants — in a way that the hillside properties above the city do not allow. The fireplaces and the deep tubs make the rooms genuinely comfortable in the cold months.
