Norkhil is what a city hotel looks like when the city in question is Thimphu — forty four rooms arranged around traditional craftsmanship, carved timber and woven textiles, with the forested slopes above the capital filling the upper windows. It is boutique in the real sense: small enough that the front desk remembers your name by the second morning.
Rooms run from snug standards to four proper suites, most with balconies facing either the forest or the city, and all finished in a register that reads Bhutanese without turning into a museum. The spa downstairs handles the end of a walking day competently, and the restaurant covers Bhutanese and continental without fuss.
What it offers a journey is position. Thimphu’s dzong, market, museums and cafes are minutes away, and the hotel absorbs the capital’s modest bustle without passing it on to your room.
Norkhil is my dependable Thimphu recommendation for guests who want comfort and character at a sensible weight in the budget — the rooms are generous, the staff are genuinely warm, and it sits close enough to town that an evening stroll to a cafe needs no driver.
