Terma Linca sits at Babesa, the village at the southern edge of Thimphu before the valley narrows and the road to Paro begins. The grounds are the feature here — the resort has the space and the layout of a proper estate, with a swimming pool, a yoga and meditation room built from the same dark wood as the main building, children’s play areas, and three separate dining venues. It is not the most intimate property in Thimphu, but it is one of the most comfortable.
The rooms are wood-panelled, warm, and Bhutanese in detail — traditional craft expressed through furniture and textile rather than through grand architectural gestures. The hot stone bath in the spa uses seasonal herbs and river stones, and the khempa oil used in treatments comes from hemp grown in the Bhutanese hills. In winter, when the valley is cold and clear, the combination of the heated pool and the spa makes the resort very easy to stay in for more than a night.
Three restaurants serve between them Chinese, Indian, European, Thai, and Bhutanese food. The cooking classes and cultural shows offered on request are gentle rather than orchestrated — the staff are Babesa locals, and the programmes they run reflect what they actually know.
I place guests at Terma Linca when they specifically want resort grounds — when families with children need a pool and more room to move, or when guests want to step back from the density of central Thimphu while staying close enough to access it. The fifteen minutes to the city centre is nothing by car. The location also works well as a final night before the drive to Paro — the road south from Babesa is the same road to the airport, so the morning departure is easy.
