Zhiwaling Ascent
Twenty rooms on a hillside above Thimphu — the Zhiwaling group's contemporary concept hotel in the capital.
Twenty rooms above Thimphu in twenty-five acres of garden — the boutique sister to Zhiwa Ling Heritage in Paro, with a contemporary design approach.
Zhiwaling Ascent is the Thimphu property of the Zhiwaling group — the family that built the Zhiwa Ling Heritage hotel in Paro. Where the Paro property is a grand manor built by sixty artisans over three years, the Ascent is something different: described as Bhutan’s first contemporary concept hotel, it sits within twenty-five acres of cypress-tree parkland on a hillside above the capital, and takes a more modern, pared-back design approach.
Twenty luxury rooms and suites, all heated, with en-suite bathrooms. The Menlha Spa — the same name as the spa at Zhiwa Ling Heritage — offers a fitness centre, sauna, steam room, and traditional Bhutanese outdoor hot stone bath. Yoga is available on the rooftop with panoramic views or on the lawn below.
Zhiwaling Ascent works well for guests who are staying at Zhiwa Ling Heritage in Paro and want the continuity of the Bhutanese-owned Zhiwaling group in Thimphu. The parkland setting above the city is genuinely pleasant, and the contemporary design approach is a change from the heritage register.
