Nimalung Dratshang dances for three days in Chumey, and on the last morning the celebration moves to Kurjey, where Guru Rinpoche left his body print in the rock.
Midsummer is Bumthang’s quietest tourist season and its greenest — buckwheat rising, valleys full of rain washed light. The Nimalung Tshechu fills the monastery courtyard in Chumey for three days, and its final day coincides with the one day Kurjey Tshechu at the holiest site in the district, the cave temple where the Guru meditated.
Attending both in one journey means seeing a monastic festival at close quarters and then joining the biggest single day gathering of the Bumthang summer, with almost no other foreign visitors in either courtyard.
