The largest festival in eastern Bhutan, at the gorge side dzong — felt hatted Brokpa down from Merak and Sakteng among the crowd.
Trashigang Tshechu is the east’s answer to Paro and Thimphu, and in some ways the richer sight: the crowd itself is the spectacle, drawing every community of the far east including the Brokpa of Merak and Sakteng in their five pointed felt hats and red wool.
The dzong hangs above the Drangme Chhu gorge, its courtyards stacked down the spur, and for three days the whole town below becomes one extended festival ground. This is the anchor of every November journey we build east of Bumthang.
