Haa Tshechu unfolds at Lhakhang Karpo, the white temple at the valley’s heart, and it remains what most tshechus were thirty years ago: a local gathering first and always. The valley’s families arrive with picnic baskets, the atsaras work the crowd hard, and the dances run their full length without concession.
Over Chele La from Paro, it is the easiest truly local festival to reach in the west — one high pass between you and a courtyard where you may be the only visitor who needed a guidebook.
