Bhutan in November: Crisp Days, Cold Nights
November is dry and clear in Bhutan, and the nights are cold. Days are about 12°C in Paro and Thimphu, and nights fall below freezing. Rain is rare, so the views are good.
| November at a glance | |
|---|---|
| Weather | About 12°C by day and minus 1 to minus 2°C at night in Paro and Thimphu, with almost no rain |

| Guest tip | Pack thermal layers, a warm jacket, a hat and gloves |
The weather
Long term averages for Paro and Thimphu show days near 12°C and nights between minus 1 and minus 2°C. Rain falls on about 1 day in the month, and sunshine averages 8 hours a day. That makes November one of the driest and sunniest months. These are long term averages for Paro and Thimphu, not a forecast.
The cranes and the festivals
The Black Necked Crane Festival takes place at Gangtey Gonpa in Phobjikha on 11 November, and the date is the same every year. The cranes spend the winter in the valley, so read our January post for more on Phobjikha.
Other festivals move with the lunar calendar. Jambay Lhakhang Drup in Bumthang is listed for 26 to 29 October in 2026 and for 14 to 17 November in 2027. Mongar and Trashigang hold their tshechus in mid November in 2026. These dates are tentative, so check our Festival Dates page for the year you travel.
Trekking and high passes
Cold nights make November a month to ask about before you pick a trek. Lower valley walks are fine. Ask us about your route.

At temples and dzongs, cover your shoulders and knees, and take your hat off. For the full list, read our guide to what to pack for Bhutan.
How we build a November journey
November suits guests who want dry weather and clear views and do not mind the cold. Many pair Paro and Thimphu with Phobjikha for the crane festival. Tell us your dates and we will say honestly whether this month fits what you want.
